Community Newsletter: Racine Neighborhood Watch | Faith & Community

RACINE – Racine Neighborhood Watch Inc. extends warm wishes for a safe and prosperous 2022.

In January, the RNW continues its work at the neighborhood level as a strong and effective advocate for crime prevention and safety, cooperation between neighbors and neighborhood stability. RNW builds productive communication between the community and law enforcement agencies through its Neighborhood Watch meetings, programs, training and events. There is a lot to do in 2022.

“Tried and true for 2022” is a catchy phrase that encourages residents to be proactive in crime prevention, using proven tools, techniques, and reminders to avoid becoming a victim of crime. Many simple, everyday crime prevention tips are readily available and have a high success rate. The problem is that in this busy world, people overlook the simple things. You forget to lock the car doors every time the car is parked (or when preheating the vehicle in winter). They open an email or text message that appears to be from a trusted source before looking at the sender again. They don’t stay current on crime trends and scam alerts. They wonder if what they see is important enough to report on.

That starts with the neighbors

Proven crime prevention starts with neighbors getting to know other neighbors. Good neighborhoods are the basis for great neighborhoods. And great neighborhoods have established Neighborhood Block Watch programs. Block clocks are one of the most effective and inexpensive methods of crime prevention.

A Neighborhood Block Watch relies on the greatest crime-fighting tool ever devised – a good neighbor. It depends on a communication network between all block observers, law enforcement and RNW. Positive neighbor-to-neighbor and neighbor-to-law-enforcement relationships reinforce a genuine sense of community and safety. Neighborhood Block Watches are proven crime prevention tools that work.

Proven crime prevention requires the participation of everyone. Neighbors are the resident experts on who and what belongs in the neighborhood – and who and what doesn’t. RNW encourages residents to be mindful of the people, places and situations around them. If someone or something seems suspicious, out of place, or not quite right, call the Racine County Communications Center 911 at 262-886-2300 to report it. If in doubt, have it checked by the police.

A fast, tried, and genuine crime prevention tool that shares up-to-date crime prevention and fraud alert information is the RNW Facebook page. Posts on the site are timely and factual (and fun!). It doesn’t take long to visit facebook.com/RacineNeighborhoodWatch, like, and follow the RNW page.

Take a taste of the crime

RNW is excited to announce the return of the Take a Taste Out of Crime fundraiser as an in-person event in 2022. The 11th Annual Gala will be held on Friday, March 25 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Roma Lodge, 7130 Spring St., Mount Pleasant.

RNW prides itself on hosting the area’s best and most popular after work social. In a fun, casual atmosphere complemented by live background music, TATOOC offers a selection of wines and beers to sample, Wisconsin cheeses to sample, and hot hors d’oeuvres to savor. More than 100 items are attractively displayed in two ballrooms for raffles or silent auctions.

There is even more to do in 2022 as the RNW prepares for the spring fundraiser. Businesses and/or individuals interested in becoming an event sponsor or donor in kind may call the RNW office at 262-637-5711 or email [email protected].

39 years

2022 marks the 39th year that RNW, a non-profit organization, is doing what it does best – working with residents to create safe, friendly, and attractive neighborhoods throughout the Racine community. RNW has built an ingrained network of support and communication: family by family and neighborhood by neighborhood. The RNW works closely with law enforcement agencies, promoting relationships and communication between neighbors and the police.

Through its meetings, programs, and events, the RNW continues to educate residents about block watches, crime prevention, and how to manage quality of life concerns. RNW helps beautify neighborhoods, connects local community resources, and contributes to community well-being. For more information, call 262-637-5711.
