Free outdoor, drive-in movies in Milwaukee area in summer 2022

Here’s a guide to the free outdoor movie events in the Milwaukee area this summer and fall.

Unless otherwise noted, movies all begin at dusk.

Remember: In 2022, things will change quickly. Check community websites for updates.

Elm Grove

The village’s Friday Flicks series screens mostly on Friday nights in the pavilion in Elm Grove Village Park, 13600 Juneau Blvd. The movies start at 8:30 pm Info: elmgrovewi.org.

The Glendale retail complex at 5800 N. Bayshore Drive brings its Bayshore Family Flicks series back to The Yard, the center’s outdoor expanse with a large digital screen. The movies start at 5 pm Info: thebayshorelife.com.

Milwaukee Recreation Department

Milwaukee Public Schools’ Milwaukee Recreation hosts its Family Drive-In Movie Day June 4 at MPS’ Central Services building, 5225 W. Vliet St. Two movies are screening with separate admission: “Sing” at 3 pm and “Encanto” at 5:20 pm Cost is $20 per vehicle per movie. (Rain date is June 11.) Info: milwaukeerecreation.net.

Milwaukee/Martin Drive Neighborhood

The Martin Drive Neighborhood Association — which represents the west side neighborhood generally bounded by West Vliet Street, North 35th Street, West Martin Drive and Wisconsin Highway 175 — shows its outdoor summer movies in its Community Gardens, at 1345 N. 46th St. (46th and Vliet Streets). Milwaukee/Veterans Park

Milwaukee/Wisconsin Bike Week Movie

For Wisconsin Bike Week, the Milwaukee Bike-In Movie Series is holding an outdoor screening at Harbor View Plaza, 600 E. Greenfield Ave. Info: bonus movie! Wisconsin Bike Week presents Pixar’s LUCA @ Harbor View Plaza Facebook page.

June 9: “Luca”

NewBerlin

The city’s Movies in the Park series returns to Malone Park, 16400 W. Al Stigler Parkway. Each of the movie nights has a theme. The movies show at dusk. Info: newberlin.org.

July 9: “Encanto” (drive-in theme; parking lot opens at 7 pm)

Oconomowoc/Moonlit Movies

The Moonlit Movies series takes place in Fowler Park; the titles, set for dusk at June 16, July 14 and Aug. 11, will be posted one week before the date on the series website and Facebook page. Info: moonlitmovies.org.

Port Washington

The city Parks and Recreation Department’s has a pair of Friday Night Flicks planned at the Veteran’s Memorial Park Bandshell, 410 N. Lake St. Info: portwashingtonwi.gov.

Sussex

The village’s Outdoor Movie Night takes place at dusk in the Civic Center Plaza, N64-W23760 Main St. Info: villagesussex.org.

Waukesha

The city of Waukesha’s Monday Nights at the Movies returns to Cutler Park. Pre-movie activities start at 6 pm; the movies start at 7:15 pm Info: waukesha-wi.gov.

Drive-in movie theaters near Milwaukee

The drive-in boom faded after the first year of the pandemic, but there still are some drive-in stalwarts in southeastern Wisconsin.

  • the Milky Way Drive In, launched in 2020 in the parking out outside the Milwaukee Milkmen’s stadium in Franklin, is back, with screenings on the nights that the Milkmen are on the road. For tickets and a schedule, go to milkywaydrivein.com.
