IDOT: Delays possible during highway lane closures in Madison County | Granite City News

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced nightly closings on I-70/270/55 between I-70/270/55 and 2.6 miles east of I-70/270/55, starting Monday, March 8 weather permitting.

Both directions are reduced to a single lane in each direction from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. each night. This phase of the work is required for road surface repairs and is expected to be completed by May 1st.

This phase of work is part of a larger project that will include many additional road closures. The times and locations of future closings will be announced as the project progresses. The entire project is expected to be completed in November.

When driving through the work zone, there may be delays for the driver. Drivers are encouraged to slow down, be aware of changing conditions, obey all signage, and refrain from using mobile devices when approaching and driving through the work area.

IDOT also announced the closure of the lanes on I-255 between New Poag Road and Madison Avenue starting Monday March 8, weather permitting.

Both directions are reduced to a single track in each direction. This work is required for repairs to bridge decks and is expected to be completed in September 2021.
