La Crosse County Dem chair says divided rule in Madison calls for compromise – WIZM 92.3FM 1410AM

Wisconsin’s elections earlier this month didn’t change much about state government.

The chair of the La Crosse County Democratic Party, William Garcia, predicts two more years of gridlock in Madison between Democratic Governor Tony Evers and a solidly Republican legislature. Garcia says Republicans continue to falsely claim that elections in Wisconsin and elsewhere are crooked, or managed badly.

“In what world do we elect Tony Evers governor, and then we send only one-third of Democrats to the legislature?” Garcia tells WIZM’s La Crosse Talk. “The gerrymandered maps have thrown everything completely out of whack.”

He says gerrymandering districts to help one party stay in power encourages candidates for state office to take extreme positions to attract the most extreme voters in their respective parties.
