LaVerne Emilie Schmidt, 97 years old of Pleasant Prairie, WI passed away peacefully on Monday, July 25, 2022 at Froedtert Pleasant Prairie Hospital.
She was born November 11, 1924, in Kenosha, WI, the daughter of the late Emil and Anna (Carlsen) Hellman. LaVerne attended local schools and graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School in 1943. On June 2, 1951, LaVerne married Jack Schmidt at St. Mary’s Lutheran Church in Kenosha, WI. Together they raised three children, Kimberly, Linnea, and Pamela. Jack preceded her in death on December 31, 1978.
Laverne worked ESO for the Great Lakes Naval Base for many years and retired from the Social Security Administration. She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. LaVerne enjoyed playing cards, taking trips to the casino, and traveling & singing with the RSVP Chorus. Above all, LaVerne cherished time spent with her family.
Survivors include her three children, Kimberly (Paul) Schumacher, Linnea Sward, Pamela (Tom) Grisham; eight grandchildren, Michelle (Ted) Krueger, Karen Schumacher, Kelli (Josh) Timm, Kristi (Oscar Rodriguez) Grisham, Daniel Lahti, Christopher (Mary) Lahti, Jeanna Rubjerg, and Nichole Dahlquist; and 14 great-grandchildren, Ethan, Cameron, Easton, Everest, Jayden, Kaleb, Savannah, Maddison, Londynn, Phoenix, Alexyss, Dayton, Ryleigh, and Viktorija. LaVerne is further survived by a sister-in-law, Teri Hellman; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, LaVerne was preceded in death by her brother, Jack Hellman.
Services for LaVerne will be held graveside at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park at 10:00 am on Saturday July 30, 2022. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in her memory.
