A 21-year-old Kenosha man was charged with burglary after two members of the National Guard discovered him and others who broke into a house on March 19.

In addition to the burglary, Caleb Tucker faces criminal property damage and bail charges.

Kenosha Police responded to the 16th Avenue and 15th Street area just before 8 a.m. for a reported break-in. On arrival, an officer spoke to the caller and the witnesses – both members of the National Guard.

According to a criminal complaint, witnesses said they were on their way to work when they saw three suspects walking through a basement window. They approached the window, yelled in, and the suspects ran out of the house. One of the witnesses said they spotted a fourth suspect walking with the group as they cut through a nearby park and parking lot. One of the suspects was wearing a WWI gas mask.

One of the members of the National Guard caught one of the suspects, grabbed him and brought him to the ground. He told him he had called the police. A confrontation ensued and one of the suspects reportedly hit one of the National Guard members in the head. The group then ran into the woods.

When officers examined the house and tried to contact the homeowner who started the incident, officers discovered a possible suspect holding a black gas mask – since then identified as Tucker.

The complaint states that the homeowner identified all four suspects by name and that Tucker previously lived in the house but was evicted in February. Since then, the homeowner has had problems getting things out of the house. Once, the homeowner said, Tucker and someone else tried to steal his dog.

Court documents show that Tucker was released in February for yet another signature bond offense, and as a condition of that bond, no further crimes were ordered.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 30th.
