items

A Milwaukee man charged in connection with a 2020 police chase that resulted in a fatal crash pleaded guilty on Tuesday, April 6th.

Robert Nash, 52, pleaded guilty to death. Two additional points – escaping from an officer leading to death who knowingly operates a motor vehicle while suspended causing death. These counts have been dismissed, but will be scanned at the sentencing hearing scheduled for May 28th.

According to a criminal complaint, Milwaukee police discovered a fast moving vehicle near the 30th and Walnut on September 26, 2020. As they followed the vehicle and switched on their lights and sirens, the vehicle sped away with several stop signs.

The officers briefly lost track of the vehicle as the chase, which began in a southeastern direction, made its way northwest. It was later discovered near 35th and Walnut.

A witness told police that the vehicle had a stop sign there and hit another vehicle which then overturned. The driver was trapped inside and later died of his injuries.

The complaint says Nash told police that he saw officers trying to pull him and did not want to be caught driving without a license. He also admitted the crash and ran from the scene to his house, where he later told the police a false story about carjacking.
