Milwaukee Missionary Currie drop-in center serves families in need

After walking in her shoes, a Milwaukee woman who once struggled paves the way for others to succeed. Her goal is to provide others with the resources she desires in her darkest days. She hopes to reach even more people with a few new projects.

“I really hope a place like this will raise awareness that the people in the community really care,” said Jessica Currie, founder and general manager of Missionary Currie for Women and Children, Inc. “I’m excited about this ! “

Currie, founder and CEO of Missionary Currie for Women and Children, opens her doors with open arms.

“If you ever have a dream, don’t give up on it,” said Currie.

Her dream was born out of her own struggles.

“Being a homeless teenage mom and also a high school dropout, I really knew I had a mission to help people who were in the same situation as me,” said Currie.

Currie launched her non-profit organization in 2018. Now there is another milestone: the opening of your new contact point was celebrated at the beginning of October.

“People can come in and work on their résumé,” said Currie. “You can bring a warm meal. You can get some food. You can apply for benefits. You can shower when you need it. “

It also houses a playroom for children.

“You can work on your homework,” said Currie.

There is a donation room.

“Those bins have shoes, and this wall here has tons of shoes, breast pumps, tissues, toiletries, and soap,” said Currie.

The facility also offers temporary housing for women and children.

“It means a lot because we grew up homeless and didn’t have much,” said Jecureon Currie, the 12-year-old son of Jessica Currie.

Currie’s own children, including 12-year-old Jecureon, are helping.

“It’s really been a blessing to see her doing all of these things for us and the people in the church,” said Jecureon Currie.

Currie also sets up a pantry that is open to everyone.

“Different counties, different zip codes,” said Currie.

It’s all an effort to take a walk that she’s already taken, a little easier for the next person.

“Everyone teaches you. Anything we go through, God allows us to make a difference in someone else’s life,” said Currie.

In order to protect the privacy of the users of the Currie drop-in center, we do not share their address with anyone. Community members who wish to access it must contact Missionary Currie by phone or email.
