Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman said it all began around 5 p.m. when police spotted a speeding vehicle with no license plates near Teutonia and Atkinson. That driver initially stopped, but police said when the officers approached, the driver took off and a pursuit began.

Pursuit/crashes near 20th and Teutonia

During the pursuit, Norman said an MPD squad with its lights and sirens activated was involved in a collision with another vehicle that was not involved in the pursuit. That crash happened near Capitol and Teutonia. There were three people in the vehicle that was involved in the collision with the squad. Norman said two fled on foot and later showed up at the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. The third, a Milwaukee man, 54, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries in critical condition.

The fleeing vehicle was also involved in a crash with two other vehicles near 19th Place at Atkinson. Police said the fleeing driver, a Milwaukee man, 19, was arrested after a foot pursuit and taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries.

Police said a Milwaukee woman, 28, who was driving a vehicle struck by the fleeing vehicle, was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.

Two Milwaukee police officers were injured during a pursuit that involved multiple crashes in the area near 20th and Teutonia Monday.

The officers in the squad involved in the crash, both men, ages 24 and 35, with five years’ and nine-plus years’ experience on the force, were taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries and placed on administrative duty.

“I heard the crash, like, the boom, and then you heard everybody like, ‘Oh!'” said Michael Smith.

Outside the of the Sandwich God near 20th and Teutonia, Smith said he, too, often sees the result of reckless driving.

“It’s always some sort of like, crash and/or something right here,” said Smith.

The shop is near where police said the 19-year-old fleeing driver struck two vehicles.

Smith said he hopes something is done to change the behavior of the city’s reckless drivers.

“I ain’t saying lock people up forever or nothing like that, but you got to do something because this is outrageous,” said Smith.

Police said that fleeting vehicle was stolen.

The Milwaukee Area Investigative Team is leading this investigation, led by the Waukesha Police Department.
