Milwaukee Urban League Sets Date for 2021 Black and White Ball

Milwaukee, WI (March 12, 2021) – One of Milwaukee’s premier social events will again be a personal gala of fashion, fun and music! The Milwaukee Urban League’s 36th Annual Black and White Ball will take place on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. The ball, supported by sponsor Rockwell Automation, is a hybrid event with plans for limited number of personal guests at The Wisconsin Center in downtown Milwaukee and others virtually participating in the event.

“The 2020 Black and White Virtual Ball was a tremendous success, but with the increasing availability of vaccines to prevent serious cases of COVID-19, we recognize that many in the community view a personal event as an important milestone in returning to normal “Said Dr. Eve M. Hall, President and CEO of the Milwaukee Urban League.” We look forward to, as we expect at this time, to have a limited number of people for an in-person celebration while others join us virtually We hope that the number of personal people can increase as more people are vaccinated. “

The Black and White Ball is the Milwaukee Urban League’s largest fundraiser of the year and helps support the organization’s education, employment, advocacy, and economic development programs that serve the Milwaukee African American community. The event co-chairs are Cecelia Gore, executive director of the Brewers Community Foundation, the nonprofit of the Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Club, and Blake Moret, chairman and CEO of Rockwell Automation.

During the pandemic, MUL adapted its programs to online platforms to continue serving community members who seek support and hope. In addition, the organization has successfully launched several initiatives and received support to expand its mission of empowering communities and changing lives. The efforts include the following:

  • Partnered with Johnson Controls and the National Urban League through a $ 2 million grant to support employment, education, the advocacy and equitable efforts for justice and democracy.
  • Founded, The L * A * S * T * Mile, a temporary transportation assistance program for MUL customers working or seeking work in remote areas. The program is funded by Stella and Chewy’s, an Oak Creek-based pet food supplier.
  • The popular driving license class has been switched to online.
  • Securing a grant from the National Urban League for non-partisan efforts to increase voter turnout in the 2020 elections. The grant supported the “Vote for Me” program, a collaboration with the Urban League of Greater Madison and the Urban League of Racine and Kenosha.
  • Awarded a National Urban League Scholarship, “Project Wellness: Vaccine Equality, Reluctance, and Admission Initiative” to promote equity and access to health.
