Norita Sorensen’s obituary (1930-2021) – Racine, WI

Norita J. Sorensen

July 11, 1930 – October 14, 2021

MOUNT PLEASANT – Norita J. Sorensen, 91, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, October 14, 2021, with loved ones.

She was born on July 11, 1930 in Milwaukee to the late Jack Dickenson and Nora Anna Ida (née Luebke) Wilson.

On July 9, 1955, she married Fred Roger Sorensen. They enjoyed a life together and raised their families. He preceded her in death on November 20, 2008.

Norita served as secretary to the Treasurer of the City of Mount Pleasant for many years. It was a job that she really enjoyed, that brought her many valued friendships and closeness to the local community. However, her true calling and passion was her family. Norita was a deeply devoted mother, a loving grandmother, and a caring, inspiring friend to many.

All her life, Norita found joy in simple things, enjoyed the beauty of the changing seasons, strolled outdoors with a friend, or watched her houseplants flourish. Norita enjoyed sewing, playing Scrabble, creating family photo albums, and hanging out with her extended family (the Kirkegaards and “the Cousins”). In her later years she knitted countless hats for homeless shelters and needy school children and enjoyed discovering new things with ALL (Adventures in Lifelong Learning). She also enjoyed exercising and socializing with her friends in cardiac rehab and attending social events in Fountain Hills. Norita was happiest with family company, especially when she spent time with her three children.

She leaves behind her daughter and sons: Anita (Donald) Ford from Arkansas, Karl (Stephen Weigel) Sorensen from Chicago and Eric (Debora) Sorensen from South Carolina. She also leaves behind her grandchildren: Jessica (Josh) Corcoran, Jordan (Nicole) Ford and Sara Sorensen, and great-grandchildren: Ryan and Mya Ehlers and Maddy and Samson Corcoran. Her dear sister, Jacqueline Wilson from Milwaukee, also preceded her in death.

Family and friends are cordially invited to meet on Saturday, October 23, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the Draeger-Langendorf funeral and crematorium for a tour of the service is recorded and is to be done within 24 hours Funeral termination available on our website. The family urges all visitors to wear masks to protect participants, especially the most vulnerable. Her funeral will take place immediately after the service in West Lawn Memorial Park.

In the Veterans Outreach of Wisconsin, memorials in Norita’s name were proposed to the Tiny Homes Veterans Village in Racine or Milwaukee. https://support.vowvillages.com/give/176723/#!/donation/checkout.
