The Brewers begin their march towards the prestigious Cactus Cup against the Chicago White Sox in the first game of their Cactus League schedule this afternoon.
A reminder that these games can look more like intrasquad scrimmages than real baseball games, with teams being allowed to finish an inning before 3 outs, pulling pitchers when they hit a certain number of pitches in an inning, only to close them again to finish work and decide whether or not to play the entire 9 innings. All of this is being done to relieve the pitcher’s arms at this camp as everyone tries to prepare for a big jump in last season’s innings.
For today’s spring opener, both the Brewers and White Sox have agreed to quit after 6 innings today. Even so, there is baseball-like activity in a live setting today, and that’s cool.
The first pitch is set to 2:05 p.m. Central. The game only appears on the radio in Wisconsin, but if you live outside of the market it will also air on NBC Sports Chicago.
