Three Kenosha students named Kohl scholars, each awarded $10,000 scholarships | Local News

Initiative scholars selected by their schools have shown exceptional initiative in the classroom and promising prospects for success in college and beyond, but have not yet received any other academic scholarships.

“We are thrilled that, at such a turbulent time in education, Wisconsin students, teachers, principals and schools are recognized for their dedication to education and learning,” said Dr. Chris Cody, chairman of the board of directors of the Wisconsin Council of Religious and Independent Schools. among the six organizations that co-sponsor the award program.

Other co-sponsors include: the Wisconsin Newspaper Association Foundation, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, regional cooperative education agencies, the Association of Wisconsin School Administrators, and the Wisconsin Homeschool Parents Association.

The Kohl Foundation’s scholarship and fellowship program was launched in 1990 by former US Senator Herb Kohl, a philanthropist and businessman.

Since then, in as many years, the foundation has provided nearly $ 25 million to 3,300 Wisconsin educators, principals, students, and 31 schools.

“Education is key to the future of Wisconsin and our nation. I am very proud of the achievements of these students, teachers and principals and look forward to the great contributions they will make in the future, ”said Kohl.
