Watch: Woodson Defensive Player of Year Highlights

GREEN BAY, Wisconsin – On February 6, 2011, Charles Woodson won the Super Bowl.

On February 6, 2021, he won the Pro Football Hall of Fame election.

Part of the reason he was selected in the first choice was his monumental 2009 season with the Green Bay Packers, which resulted in his being named Defensive Player of the Year for the NFL.

As a playmaker from day one of his arrival at Green Bay with eight interceptions in 2006, four in 2007 and seven in 2008, Woodson raised his level of play even further in 2009. He led the NFL with nine interceptions and three pick sixes. plus forced four fiddles and added two sacks and nine tackles for losses.

In a big midseason game against Dallas, Woodson had an interception, two forced fiddles, and a sack. Two weeks later, Woodson had two interceptions, a forced fumble, a sack, a defensive touchdown, and a Heisman pose on a Detroit router.

“I think being amazed would be a little disrespectful to him,” said quarterback Aaron Rodgers in 2009 after Woodson scored the # 40 career interception. “I’m not surprised, I’m impressed. I’m not surprised by the way he takes care of his body. He’s the guy I know personally who was here and trained in January and February when no one else was here. How he takes care of his body in the weight room as he exercises. His film studies are really underestimated and maybe not discussed enough. He sees so much film, understands the game. ”

The 2009 season was Woodson’s second of four consecutive Pro Bowl years.
