Green Bay man arrested on suspected 10th OWI

GREEN BAY, Wisconsin (WBAY) – A man from Green Bay is behind bars for court documents suggest he is operating on a 10th charge of anesthesia after allegedly hitting a light pole with his vehicle last week.

According to a criminal complaint, 50-year-old Kit Vandenheuvel’s OWI charge was modified by a General Alcohol Concentration Enhacer of 10 or more.

Court documents show that Vandenheuvel was formally indicted in Brown County on Wednesday.

The complaint said officials arrived at 300 block of North Broadway Street shortly after 11 p.m. on Saturday, July 17, to get a report of a vehicle crashing into a light pole.

When the officers arrived, they said they found Vandenheuvel awake and disoriented, but his head was bleeding.

Police added that there was a light pole on the ground in the area.

According to documents, Vandenheuvel’s wife was talking on the hands-free system and he told her, “I screwed it up, smashed my car … whatever I get, I came to myself” and “I just hurt myself, I didn’t hurt anyone” . . “

Vandenheuvel then allegedly told the police that he hadn’t had a drink in a while but started again because of everything he saw online.

On Friday, July 16, the Ministry of Justice issued an arrest warrant for Vandenheuvel.

He was eventually taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital, where an OWI crew met him and officers.

According to police, Vandenheuvel’s vehicle was south of Broadway Street and hit a light pole after crossing the center line.

According to his wife, Vandenheuvel had a drinking problem and they are currently separated.

The complaint later states that Vandenheuvel admitted to drinking all day to ease the fear.

Court records show that his previous OWIs were from 1990, two in 1993 and 1994, one in 1997, two in 2003 and one in 2004.

If convicted, Vandenheuvel faces a fine of up to $ 50,000, a prison sentence of up to 15 years, or both.

At the time of this writing, the online court records have not been updated to reflect when his next court date is.
