Over 30 pro-navalny protesters in Russia detained in St. Petersburg – court docket information

ST. PETERSBURG (UrduPoint News / Sputnik – January 25, 2021) More than 30 protesters in St. Petersburg who took part in the unauthorized demonstrations in support of Russian opposition person Alexey Navalny have been arrested, according to updated information from the court press service.

The press service initially announced that two people were arrested after the demonstrations in St. Petersburg on Saturday. According to updated information from the local courts, a total of 37 people were arrested.

Another 46 participants in the unauthorized protests in St. Petersburg were fined.

It was previously reported that over 1,000 protesters were arrested in Moscow following Saturday’s demonstrations. The vast majority of those detained were in their twenties.

The chairman of the Russian Presidential Council on Civil Society and Human Rights Valery Fadeyev said there had been no violations during the detentions carried out in support of opposition person Alexey Navalny during Saturday’s unauthorized demonstrations across Russia.

The chairman stressed the importance of carrying out a thorough investigation into requests for minors to participate in the unauthorized protests. Such calls were commonly recorded on social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok.

On Saturday, many Russian cities were hit by protests in support of opposition figure Alexey Navalny, who was arrested on arrival at Sheremetyevo International Airport in Moscow in early January. Before Navalny’s return from Germany to Russia, where he was being treated for his alleged poisoning, the Russian Federal Prison Service warned that he was being arrested for parole violations as he had previously been convicted of two administrative offenses.
