House of Hope, a house supported by US Venture Open

GREEN BAY, Wisconsin (WBAY) – The US Venture Open will take place on Wednesday, August 11th. Since its inception, they have raised more than $ 51 million and allocated more than $ 40 million to efforts to end poverty in northeastern Wisconsin.

This year the annual golf excursion is held, but the online auction has been postponed and dinner and program have been canceled due to CDC guidelines amid the rise in COVID-19 cases.

Over the next few nights, Action 2 News, proud partner of the US Venture Open, will introduce some of the organizations that have supported your donations in the US Venture Open’s mission to end poverty.

One of these organizations is House of Hope, a licensed facility for pregnant and parenting young people where they can find protection and support.

“We have heard from our community partners over time that there is a need. In our community, people didn’t care for young homeless parents and homeless youth because there wasn’t really a shelter program, ”said Shannon Wienandt, executive director of the House of Hope in Green Bay.

“What differs from other licensed animal shelter programs in the state of Wisconsin is that we teenagers who become parents can help out at the shelter with their children over a longer period of time. It’s not just an emergency for one night, ”continued Wienandt.

“We have a lot of young people coming through this shelter who have never had a bed that was theirs before,” she said. “When youngsters walk through the doors of the House of Hope, they come into a building that so many parishioners have contributed to making it a beautiful, functional place where people can feel comfortable. It really feels like a safe place. It’s a safe building. We have very hospitable staff and volunteers here and we do our best to make it feel like home. ”

Some of these young mothers find a home here when they are not welcome themselves.

Beth Hudak, House of Hope Community Engagement Specialist, said, “They really want all parents to be great parents, and unfortunately, many of them fail to provide education, support people, and continue to do so.”

There are many organizations in Northeast Wisconsin that have benefited from Drive 2 End Poverty of the US Venture Open over the years. You can see more of this on Action 2 News over the next few nights and watch short videos below.
