Multiple fire departments are on the scene of a fire and explosion at a construction company in Waukesha County.The response is at Summerset Marine Construction on Chapman Lane in Eagle.Officials said the explosion and fire started shortly before 8 am Thursday.The cause is still under investigation. No deaths were reported but three civilian workers and three firefighters were injured. One worker was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Summerset Marine Construction owner Larry Chapman said the man had a broken leg and was undergoing surgery.He was expected to be OK.The two other workers were treated on the scene.Chapman said they sustained concussions were dragged out of the building by another employee. One firefighter was taken to the hospital and was in good condition. The other two firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion and able to continue working at the scene.Dispatchers said everyone inside at the time of the explosion and fire was accounted for.News Chopper 12 was above the scene and captured video of smoke and flames coming from the building.Smoke from the fire can be seen for miles.Nearby Eagle Elementary School was evacuated due to the smoke. Those students were sent home for the day but no one was affected by the smoke. Several area businesses were also evacuated for a short time but have been able to resume work.Houses within a one-mile radius were given a shelter-in-place order and told not to let outside air into their homes.The building was heavily damaged and the roof has partially collapsed. That has prevented firefighters from fully extinguishing the fire.Units were called in from Milwaukee, Kenosha, and Washington counties to help provide more water.Firefighters expect the flames to last throughout the afternoon. Excavators have been called in to help firefighters get to all the fires.According to its website, Summerset Marine provides lift and pier services including installation, maintenance and repairs from Lake Country to southeastern Wisconsin.Summerset has a 24,000 sq. ft. facility in Eagle with a showroom, office, factory and warehouse.
