Paris city chairman John Holloway said the city has been looking for ways to improve broadband access and will work with Spectrum to ensure the entire city is covered.

“It is positive that Kenosha County has been recognized and funded,” said Holloway. “Our goal is still to make sure that all residents of the city have access to the internet they need.”

Spectrum’s application was one of five applications submitted by companies looking to expand their services to rural areas in Kenosha County. It requires that 24% of the total cost of the project come from other grants or municipal contributions.

Each community will also have local funding under the American rescue plan, from which it can draw for various projects. Broadband access is one of the eligible uses of these funds.

Local state legislators praised the granting of scholarships.

“Our increasing reliance on broadband Internet services over the past year and a half has highlighted the need for reliable, high-speed Internet access across Kenosha County,” said State Representative Samantha Kerkman, R-Salem Lakes. “Residents and business owners in these communities can now go ahead knowing that reliable broadband internet is in sight.”
