MADISON, Wis. — The man accused of setting a tiny home on fire in an encampment on Madison’s east side appeared in court Tuesday.

Jeffrey Jalinski, 37, is charged with one count of arson and two counts of threats to a law enforcement officer. During a preliminary hearing, a not guilty plea was entered for Jalinski.

Online court records show his cash bond was set at $500. As a condition of his bond, Jalinski is not allowed to have any contact with the officers he is accused of threatening, except when required for Madison Police business. He is also forbidden from contacting the officers’ family members and is not allowed to use or possess any incendiary device.

Jalinski is accused of intentionally setting the tiny home he was staying at on fire last March after he was temporarily banned from the encampment for a week due to his behavior. While collecting his belongings after being notified of the ban, he allegedly began throwing things out of the cabin before leaving with a backpack and other belongings. A few moments later, someone reported a fire at the cabin.

He allegedly threatened to kill an officer and his family and made threats to another officer when he turned himself in at the Public Safety Building later that day.
