Buckle up: Green Bay Police are participating in the Click It or Ticket 2021 campaign

GREEN BAY, Wisconsin (WFRV) – Motorists looking to navigate the streets may want to make sure they are buckled up as authorities plan on using seat belts.

The Green Bay Police Department (GBPD) joins thousands of law enforcement agencies for the Click It or Ticket campaign.

The Neenah police chief talks about new “e-bikes” and hires new employees in the latest community update

From May 24th to June 6th, the GBPD and other officials will patrol the state longer to reaffirm a message to motorists: put on your seat belts. The annual campaign begins at the same time as the first summer travel vacation (Memorial Day).

According to official figures, 89% of Wisconsin drivers wear seat belts, and the 11% who do not make up 43% of all drivers and passengers killed in traffic in Wisconsin.

Wisconsin’s Primary Seat Belt Act has been in place since 2009 and allows law enforcement to stop and quote motorists when they are not wearing a seat belt. Drivers can also be specified for any unbuckled passenger in their vehicle. The penalties are higher if children are unhindered in the vehicle.

Over 27,000 traffic convictions were passed in 2020 for missing seat belts, making Wisconsin the most common traffic violation.
