CCE Madison County offering free tax prep for seniors

(WSYR-TV) – Madison County’s Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE Madison County) is again offering a free income tax preparation program for seniors 60 and older.

New this year, if you haven’t received your $ 600 stimulus check, you will need to file an income tax return even if you don’t have to file a filing.

There are no income restrictions on the program this year.

The program will include mandatory COVID-19 precautions. Walk-ins are not allowed. Appointments must be made by calling 315-750-2638. You need to leave your name, phone number and the site you want to visit from the list below. Masks must be worn, visitors must fill out a health certificate and the recognition and liability documents must be signed.

Due to Covid-19 conditions, the locations available this year are limited to the following:

  • CCE Madison at 100 Eaton Street, Morrisville
  • Caz takes care of Fridays
  • Oneida Public Library on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday
  • Canastota Public Library on Wednesday.
  • Sullivan Library-Chittenango on Monday and Wednesday

Each site must sign in / out for contact tracking. Hand sanitizer; Seating 6 feet apart. Masks must always be worn by everyone and volunteers will disinfect the spaces between clients. Only the customer is allowed to attend the appointment – friends and family members have to wait in a car.

Anyone who feels sick, has signs of illness (such as a sore throat, fever, cough, etc.), has traveled outside of state, and / or has been exposed to someone who tested positive in the past 14 days must cancel and reschedule the appointment Security of everyone.

To best prepare for appointments, check out last year’s return to see what forms are needed this year, then bring / carry:

  • Face covering always worn correctly.
  • Tax return for the last year
  • Social security cards for anyone who is claimed.
  • Photo ID such as B. a driver’s license, even if it has recently expired.
  • Tax information forms such as W-2 and 1099
