Chicago shooting today: 5 shot, including suspect, in Fulton River District along Milwaukee Avenue between Des Plaines, Grand

CHICAGO (WLS) – Five people were injured in a shooting Wednesday afternoon in the Fulton River District, west of downtown Chicago, including one of the suspected shooters.

Chicago police said the shooting began just before 5 p.m. on the 800 block of North Milwaukee, near the intersection of Halsted, Milwaukee and Grand.

Police said witnesses said they saw at least two cars chasing each other down the street and shooting at each other. Witnesses saw a car where the gunner was holding the gun out of the window.

“I looked in the rearview mirror and could see these guys dodging and walking straight towards us and I thought that was it. We’re involved. We’re in the way now,” said witness Steven Niewiedzial.

A total of five people were shot injured, four innocent passers-by and one man suspected of being a shooter.

“Next, three cars come across on the other side of us and shoot,” said Niewiedzial. “They shot the guy in the first car. They shot him. He had bullet holes in his car and he got two flat tires and he just drove off, you could see him scratching and driving. And they were hanging around the windows and shoot.”

A 29-year-old man is in critical condition after being shot in the back. A 25 year old man was shot in the buttocks and is in good condition. A 27 year old man was shot in the arm and is in good condition. A 30-year-old woman was shot in the leg and is in good condition. A 48 year old man was shot in the leg and is in good condition.

One of the victims was shot while riding a divvy bike near Kinzie and Milwaukee.

All five were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for treatment, with the exception of the 27-year-old man who was taken to Stroger Hospital.

Nobody is currently in custody. Investigate the Area Three detectives.

The police refused to answer questions about the shootings as they are still interviewing witnesses and trying to compile as much video tracks as possible in order to find all those responsible.
