GABRIELLA: RIGHT NOW ON ARTS AVENUE, MILWAUKEE REPERTORY THEATER’S LATEST PRODUCTION IS ON STAGE NOW AND SENDING ITS AUDIENCES BACK TO THE 1970S. JOINING US NOW VIRTUALLY IS JONATHAN HETLER, DIRECTOR OF “DINO, AN EVENING WITH DEAN MARTIN.” GOOD MORNING. JONATHAN: GOOD MORNING. HOW ARE YOU? GABRIELLA: GREAT, THANK YOU FOR JOINING US. I WANT TO JUMP INTO THIS PRODUCTION. TELL ME WHAT DREW YOU INTO WANTING TO DIRECT THIS? JONATHAN: YEAH, I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A FAN OF DEAN MARTIN. I THINK CROONERS FASCINATE ME. THIS IS A GREAT PIECE THAT EXPLORES NOT JUST HIM AS A MUSICIAN OR ARTIST, BUT ALSO AS A HUMAN. YOU GET A DEEPER DIVE AND OPEN UP A LITTLE BIT MORE, TO LEARN ABOUT THE MAN BEHIND THE MUSIC, IF YOU WILL. GABRIELLA: WE KNOW OPENING NIGHT WAS LAST NIGHT. HOW DID THE FIRST PERFORMANCE GO? JONATHAN: IT IS ALWAYS A WILD RIDE. YOU GET A LIVE AUDIENCE AND IT IS THE THING THAT COMPLETES A SHOW. IT’S THE THING THAT DRAWS US ALL TOGETHER. THAT WE HAVE BEEN PRACTICING FOR, BUT WE HAVE BEEN IN A VOID. BY THE AUDIENCE WAS ENJOYING IT LAST NIGHT. HE 623 SONGS THROUGH THE COURSE — SINGS 23 SONGS THROUGH THE COURSE OF THE NIGHT. IT’S QUITE LOVELY. GABRIELLA: I AM SURE THAT IT’S AFFECTING PEOPLE OF DIFFERENT GENERATIONS. HOW IS THAT CROSSOVER DIFFERENT? GRANDPARENTS TAKING GRANDCHILDREN OR YOUNG ADULTS — HOW IS THAT TRANSFERRING ACROSS ALL AUDIENCES? JONATHAN: LAST NIGHT I WAS — THERE WAS AN OLDER COUPLE THAT MET DEAN MARTIN IN REAL LIFE AT ONE POINT, AND YET RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME WAS A YOUNGER COUPLE THAT HAD JUST — THEY WERE ENJOYING THEMSELVES, BUT DID NOT KNOW ALL THE STORIES. IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL BLEND OF GETTING INTRODUCED TO SOME, BUT ALSO RECOLLECTING A MAN THAT TH OSE WHO HAD KNOWN HIM BEFORE. SO, IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL NOISE THAT WE — MIX THAT WE SORT OF GET TO SHARE COLLECTIVELY TOGETHER, WHICH IS PART OF THE MAGIC OF THEATER AND THIS PIECE. GABRIELLA: HOW CAN FOLKS GET TICKETS? WHE CAN THEY MARK THESE THINGS DOWNRE — WHERE CAN THEY MARK THIS DOWN ON THEIR CALENDAR? JONATHAN: WE ARE PLAYING UNTIL MARCH 19. I WANT TO MAKE SURE I GOT THAT RIGHT. YOU CAN FIND ALL THE DETAILS ONLINE. YEAH, EVERYTHING IS ON THE WEBSITE. GABRIELLA: THANKS FOR JOINING US, WE REALLY APPRECIATE IT. “DIN
