MILWAUKEE- The Marquette University men’s and women’s cross country teams announced their 2022 schedule Wednesday afternoon. MU kicks off the season Friday, Sep. 2 at Eastern Illinois. The 2022 season also brings along the return of the Alumni Reunion Run on Saturday, Sep. 24

“I’m excited to announce the 2022 Cross Country schedule, which I’m thrilled to report, includes the return of our traditional Alumni Reunion Run,” said head coach Sean Birren. “Our harriers will have a challenging opener with the intent of setting the stage for a tough and memorable season.”

Following the season opener at EIU, the Golden Eagles return home for an in-state meet at UW-Green Bay on Sep. 9.

MU will then head to Notre Dame for their next two meets. The first is the National Catholic Invite (Sep. 16), which will see the Marquette women competing in a 5k and the men running a distance of five miles. They will return to South Bend for the Joe Piane Invite on Sep. 30, where the men will run an 8k and the women a 6k.

Marquette will compete in back-to-back meets at UW-Parkside on Oct. 1 and Oct. 8. Both meets will have the men running an 8k and the women a 6k. The regular season will conclude with the Bradley Pink Classic in Peoria, Ill. on Oct. 14

“With all of these meets playing host to many national qualifying teams, they will week-by-week, prepare our men and women for the culmination of the season at BIG EAST, Great Lakes Regional, and Nationals at Oklahoma State in November.”

The Marquette men and women will begin their postseason run at the BIG EAST Championships on Oct. 29 in Attleboro, MA. The Golden Eagles will then compete at the Great Lakes Regional in Terre Haute, Ind. on Nov. 10 for a chance to qualify for the NCAA Championships (Nov. 19) in Stillwater, Okla.

The MU women will see 10 returners this season. Kate Jochims, last season’s top finisher at the Regional Qualifier, leads the MU women along with Emily Noone, Laurel Moneysmith, Mallory Lafever and Anna Penzkover. Experienced runners Lexi Keppler, Marissa Valentini, Gretchen Pfeiffer, Audrey Grimm and Gianna Konen are also returning for the women. Joining the women this year will be graduate transfer Mikaela Sullivan from Wisconsin Lutheran and freshman Carol Ludington out of Indianapolis, Ind.

Dan Weizeorick returns for MU after being the top finisher for the men at the BIG EAST Championships and Regional Qualifier last fall. Joining him are veterans David Zeller, Zak Kindl, Jadon Conroy, Thomas Leonard, Cade Ferron and Greg Van Hollen.
