Gone Fishin’: June is a great time of year to fish | Sports

The overall bite in Kenosha County’s inland waters continues to warm along with water temperatures.

Recently, Ken “Big Boots” Fredrickson found white bass scattered while fishing in numerous accessible spots along the Fox River, while Ron Doerflinger and John Jacobson found bags of active bluegill and largemouth bass on the edges of the weed lines on Lower Twin Lakes Elizabeth.

Ron added that he got the most hits with red worms and tiny minnows as bait.

On the Fox River, Fred added that the white bass hit spiked smoke-colored plastic fixtures.

I like to throttle the currents in the Fox River by casting 1/32 ounce bait and flipping the hooks with a thin gum-colored plastic bait about 1 inch long and a motor-oil colored bait and then running them tandem on the line. This is known as dense lining. This is a simple technique that will attract fish. All you have to do is keep twitching this setup in an upward motion and gently let it fall back. The fish always hits a falling bait.

The bluegill bite is still present in most of Kenosha County’s inland lakes and ponds, as well as most other inland waterways in central and southern Wisconsin counties. The month of June is a spectacular time to fish for multiple species in Wisconsin on lakes, rivers, and ponds, as well as the Great Lakes.
