Jefferson-Madison Regional Library holding food drive through November 19

From now until November 19, patrons of the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library can pay off their overdue fees with donations of non-perishable food. WMRA’s Randi B. Hagi reports.

The “Food for Fines” drive will benefit the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank and Louisa County Resource Council, and all eight library branches are participating. For each non-perishable food item you bring to the front desk, the librarians will take a dollar off your balance of overdue and late renewal fines. However, if you have lost or damaged an item, you do still have to pay for that.

Circulation Services Manager Brittany Eversberg says that, last year, the drive brought in more than 1,400 pounds of food. According to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank’s website, their most needed items include canned soups and veggies, cereal, and peanut butter. We’ll include a link to the full list on our website at WMRA.org.
