Madison City schools quickly reverses mask mandate decision

On Tuesday night, Madison City Schools headmaster Ed Nichols emailed parents saying that after two days without masks, the district would request them again.

“I’m sorry we’re turning back so quickly. However, I definitely want to make sure our district adheres to board guidelines, ”wrote Nichols.

Madison City decided on Friday to end the mask requirement, citing declining case numbers among students and staff.

According to the district’s most recent COVID-19 update, the district reported 52 employees and students who were COVID positive on September 17. Currently, 342 students and staff have been banned from classrooms after being exposed to COVID positive people.

Most school districts in the state currently require masks.
