Madison Lyric Stage to Present ‘Suor Angelica’ & ‘Erwartung’

The Madison Lyric Stage in Connecticut ends the main stage season 2021 with Puccini’s “Suor Angelica” and Schönberg’s “Expectation”.

The production, scheduled to run September 9-19, will be performed at Madison’s Deacon John Grave House. In a statement, the ensemble noted that “by pairing these operatic pieces, the performance will immerse themselves in the individual stories of two women who each invaded Europe’s mental health system in 1909. The evening will examine the dire consequences of these two. “Women faced apart when they rejected the social mores of their time.”

“Suor Angelica” will play Allison Waggener in the lead role, while Allison Lindsay will play the role of the inmate in “Expectation”. Marc Deaton will direct the operas.

“Our opera evening represents the great musical drama of two different master composers of the 20th century, but composed in the same years.”
