Madison Township Trustees received one bid for summer road paving

MADISON TOWNSHIP – Madison Township received only one bid to re-tender the road construction program this summer.

A Kokosing Construction bid that opened Thursday was $ 185,200, which is $ 802 less than the district engineer’s estimate.

The trustees first opened paving offers on July 6, but turned down the only $ 185,200 offer, also from Kokosing, on July 12 after the Richland County Attorney’s Office found it was more than 10% above that Estimate lay.

The board had planned to shorten the list of 11 streets in the road construction program, but kept the list intact after learning that after paying for the 2021 road restoration program, there will be around $ 55,500 more in the pavement than they thought.

Chairman Jim Houser said he expected more offers the second time around.

“The problem we have is that a lot of companies are booked out this late in the season,” he said. “November 15th is the completion date. We spoke to the district engineer and he said we could pour asphalt up to that point, so we made it longer. “

This year’s road construction program includes the Bergraff and Vernon roads; Martha, Bahl, and Yale Avenues; Mayer, Earhart and Bonnie drives; Lee Lane; and two sections of Evergreen Avenue.

Houser said a contract will be awarded after prosecutors review the bidding documents.

“We want to add this to your (coconut) schedule as soon as possible,” said Houser.

Trustee Dan Fletcher and Fiscal Officer Leanna Rhodes did not attend Thursday’s special meeting.
