Ulysses V. Oates, 20, of 400 block on Lake Avenue, was charged with a robbery and threat of violence.

According to a criminal complaint:

On Saturday, an officer was dispatched to the area near Olympic Liquors to make a report of a robbery nearby.

Upon arrival, the officer met a man who said he was heading north when he heard a man shout “Hey, stop” and “Hey mom (expletive)”. He went up to him and asked for money. He said, “I don’t play (expletive) with you” and “I have a .22 and I’m going to blow your (expletive) right here.” Then he gave the man with the gun $ 42.

An investigator checked the Olympic Liquors surveillance video and identified the suspect as Oates. He was seen running across the street to catch up with the man and then back across the street, which matched the description of the victim’s events.

Oates was later located and said he knew the man from work and claimed that he had previously contacted him to “help” him. The investigator spoke to the man again and he said he had never seen Oates before.

Oates received a $ 1,000 signature guarantee in Racine County District Court on Tuesday. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 2nd at the Racine County Law Enforcement Center, 717 Wisconsin Ave., online court records show.
