MADISON – Ronald I “Ron” Melvin, age 85, of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2022. He was born on Oct. 13, 1936, in Vernon County, Wis., the son of Peter Melvin and Charlotte (Revels) Roberts.

Ronald graduated from Ontario High School, Wisconsin. He was united in marriage to Mary Jane Adams on Jan. 12, 1956, in Madison. Ron served in the US Air Force at the Fuchu Air Station in Japan for four and one-half years, from 1955 to 1959.

Ron worked as a construction inspector for the City of Madison Engineering Division. He loved going to auctions, hunting and trap shooting, collecting old tractors, and spending time at the cabin with his family in the Kickapoo. Ron was a great storyteller which included his Kickapoo wisdoms. Ron and Mary opened EZ Pickins Resale Shop in retirement as an outlet for Ron’s Auction Acquisitions. He enjoyed spending his free time with his many Amish friends and community. Ron also loved to spend time with his grandchildren.

Ron is survived by his wife, Mary; two sons, Jeff (Kelly Borman) Melvin and Scott Melvin; two daughters, Kelly (Denny) Meyer and LaRita Melvin; two grandsons, Mark Melvin and Timothy (Julia) McKnight; five granddaughters, Ashley Melvin, Amber Coyle, Brittany Coyle, Carissa Love and Alyssa Smith; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Don (Barbara) Melvin; two sisters, Alice Roberts and Gloria (Earl) Braun; many special nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends; and his special cat, babe.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Charlotte; granddaughter, Nichole “Coco” Meyer; stepfather, Willy Roberts; three brothers, Ben Melvin, Eddie Roberts and Butch Roberts; and two sisters, Leona Dillon and Betty Vaughan.

A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON FITCHBURG FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 2950 Chapel Valley Road, at 11:30 am on Thursday, June 2, 2022, with military honors to follow. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 am until the time of the service on Thursday. Burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens at a later date. A celebration of life will be held in Vernon County at a later date.
