The planned charter school shot down by RUSD is set to open as a private academy, according to local news

However, Thompson has friends and other contacts who have worked for private schools such as the Catholic Schools in Siena and expects to work with them to figure out how to accomplish the additional aspects not already included in the plans.

“I got all the calls. I plan to ask your brain how to do all of this. We need to work with private schools and familiarize ourselves with some of the nuances of private life, ”Thompson said. “You don’t have to reinvent the wheel because other people are out there.”

Balance costs

RSA received a $ 800,000 grant from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. If the RSA incurred costs, RUSD, as a fiscal agent, would request a refund and the money would be paid out.

From the time the RSA received the money in May to now, it had only spent $ 70,000. So there is $ 730,000 left with DPI, and RSA has no way of getting this (currently) after canceling RUSD.

But that doesn’t stop RSA from moving forward. RSA plans to launch a website and registration process at some point. The Board of Directors is also seeking the help of companies and organizations to offset the start-up costs. There are plans to launch a GoFundMe as well and seek help with some startup costs in other government programs.

“If you’re a parent looking for an option, there is an option,” Thompson said. “We’ll turn every stone.”
