United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County sets $55.5 million campaign goal

the United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County announced that it will raise $ 55.5 million this year through its community campaign.

The organization started its 2021 campaign with a virtual event on Wednesday evening.

His 2020 campaign Raised 60.1 million US dollarswhich exceeded an original target of $ 55 million. The previous two campaigns before that grossed around $ 56 million.

This year’s campaign is jointly led by Stacy Williams, Senior Vice President of Baird; Coreen Dicus-Johnson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Network Health; Joan M. Prince, University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee Vice Chancellor Emeritus; and Markus Irgens, CEO and manager of Irgens who sponsored the kickoff event.

“We are once again so fortunate to have an impressive group of leaders to lead our campaign,” said Linda Benfield, chairman of the United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County board of directors. “We are so grateful for their energy, passion and commitment to our community.”

Funds raised through the annual campaign will fund local health and human service efforts in Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Washington, and Waukesha counties.

United Way executives also announced the organization’s top initiatives for the year, including the new portfolio for race stocks.

Plans for the portfolio were announced first Earlier this year, when United Way leaders revealed that a portion of philanthropist MacKenzie Scott’s $ 25 million donation to the organization would be used for racial equality initiatives.

The racist stock portfolio is focused on increasing funding for black and brown-run organizations and “advocating and supporting black and brown-run ideas,” the organization said.

“We know we will do this better together with the community,” said Amy Lindner, President and CEO of United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County. “We are very fortunate to have an advisory committee of parishioners that is specifically focused on racial justice and justice. Members will represent the communities we want to support through our investments. “

Other major United Way initiatives this year include Safe & Stable Homes to end family homelessness in the region by 2023; Breaking Barriers to Employment and Promotion, an initiative by United Way’s Diversity Leadership Society; and its Community Schools partnership with 15 Milwaukee Public Schools locations.
