Piscopo sang the national anthem at the start of the event. Later, when the sun was shining again, he continued his performance, which included anecdotes from his youth when he met Old Blue Eyes and the Count when he was just 28 years old

“He did it wonderfully. It was like Sinatra was singing, ”said Carol Ann. “Hum a little and a little stop here and there.”

Piscopo then mingled with the crowd and even paused to talk to little Madelyn Frisch, 5, about Kenosha, who flinched, but he was okay with that when he glanced at her mother Carolynn to say that he understood that she didn’t want to talk to strangers.

Carolynn Friesch was previously at a PTA meeting and missed the whole storm action. You wouldn’t miss the performances when the clouds gave way to full sunshine.

“We wanted to come and support Laura Kaeppeler and hear the beautiful music,” she said.

The same was true for Michele Sittig, for Kenosha, Kaeppeler’s childhood friend, who attended dance classes and the Carthage College with the former Miss America.

“In rain or shine we would hold out,” said Sittig. “I think it’s very cool that she’s trying to give something back to our community.”
