Cellcom Green Bay Marathon held in cooler conditions

GREEN BAY – With a break in the recent heat, area runners were treated to cooler temperatures and light winds May 15 for the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon.

This was the first time the race was held in person since 2019 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

A marathon, half marathon and 5K were held.

In a time of 2:19:52, Kenyan native Vincent Toroitich, now residing in Grand Prairie, Texas, was the overall event winner of the marathon.

Luke Kibet was close behind in second (2:22:09), while Taggart Vanetten finished third (2:28:17).

In the women’s race, Ethiopian native Damaris Areba, also from Grand Prairie, finished first in 2:35:36.

Anna Rohrer finished second (2:36:31) less than a minute behind Areba, while Ave Grosenheider finished third (3:15:04).

half marathon

Matt Kasten from Menasha won the half marathon in 1:11:40.

Dominick Kirwa (1:12:04) and Shane Griepentrog (1:13:52) finished second and third, respectively.

In the women’s division, Caitlin Kowalke from Cross Plains won in 1:18:23.

She was followed by Hanna Christensen in second (1:18:39) and Mel Schwoerer in third (1:21:12).

5K

Green Bay’s Tanner Conard won overall in 17:08, followed by Reese Kupsky (18:00) and Zach Verhagen (18:15).

In the women’s race, Anna Patterson from Chicago won in 19:37.

Callie Bartel (20:34) and Adrena Rabas (22:24) finished second and third, respectively.
