Glass was in the woman’s eye; Illinois man indicted

A 33-year-old Illinois man is charged with reckless first-degree assault after prosecutors threw a glass bottle – a piece of it got stuck in a woman’s eye.

Racine police were called on Friday, July 30th, for a reported raid near 21st and Green Bay. There they learned that a woman had been taken to the hospital with a piece of glass about 5 cm long in her eye.

Witnesses said a suspect, now identified as Kyle Banks, threw a glass bottle against a vehicle door. It broke and a piece hit the victim in the eye.

Investigators later phoned Banks, who admitted to having been there at the time, and said a group of people “started (expletive)” talking to him after seeing one of them smoke in the vicinity Had faced gas pumps. According to a criminal complaint, people used derogatory words to him.

First, the application states that Banks said he had not thrown anything. However, he later said he threw an apple before finally admitting that he threw the bottle out of frustration to scare the group.

Banks said he had to come in to start the lawsuit and said he did not want an arrest warrant against him. However, when the police went to his location, a person opened the door and said Banks had left. The ad said the person allowed police to check the apartment and they found Banks hiding behind an attic door in the ceiling on the second floor.

Investigators later spoke to the victim, who said she was stitched but could see.

A preliminary hearing on the case is scheduled for August 25th.
