Man sentenced to life in prison

Demarius Cage, 47, of Milwaukee, was sentenced to life imprisonment – for first degree willful killings and other crimes – for the 2016 shooting of a man whose body was found in a trash can.

Milwaukee Police Department was tagged near 5th and Wright in June 2016 after a citizen smelled a foul smell from the trash can. The officers found the victim’s body in it. His death was classified as murder; An autopsy revealed that he died of a gunshot wound to the head.

Investigators spoke to the victim’s family, who said they had traveled to Milwaukee to meet someone who owed him money. A review of the victim’s phone records revealed that his last phone contact on June 6 was a number related to Cage.

A criminal complaint stated that detectives were tracking the SKU number of the trash can when it was purchased at a Home Depot on June 6th.

Police checked records of the number associated with Cage, which revealed that he was in the area where the trash can was recovered on June 7th.

When Cage was arrested, cocaine, marijuana, heroin and items related to the packaging and distribution of the drugs were found in a search of his home. They also found more than $ 17,000 in cash.

Cage was also convicted of hiding a body, possession with intent to distribute heroin and THC, and possession of a firearm by a felon.
