Last weekend in their second meet of the indoor season, the Wildcat women’s team easily won the Lake Michigan Open held in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

NMU totaled 185 points to 102 for runner-up St. Norbert and 98 for host Wisconsin-Parkside.

Three Northern athletes claimed four victories, led by Ellyse Wolfrath taking the 55-meter hurdles and 55 dash.

Teammate Leah Root won the pole vault and Madi Szymanski the 3,000 run.

At last year’s Jet’s Pizza Invite, NMU won in a five-team field with 12 team points, just ahead of host SVSU’s 10.

The Wildcats had several runner-up finishes and many appearances in the finals.

In the distance medley relay finals, Northern’s Anna Kelley, Emme Burrough, Elise Longley and Emily Sterling finished second in 12 minutes, 50.27 seconds, while Marquette Senior High School graduate Izabelle Peterson took home a second in the 200 in 25.14 seconds. Peterson also finished third in 7.74 in the 60 dash.

In the 800, Hannah Jones was runner-up in the finals in 2:15.84, while NMU teammate Meghan Langworthy got the same placing in the 5,000 in 19:00.05.

In the pentathlon, Crystal Walker was second by accumulating 3,086 points over five events. Leah Root also tied for second by clearing 3.44 meters (11-feet-3 1/2) in the pole vault, and was third in the triple jump after covering 10.72 meters (35-2).
