EDUCATION: Associate of Arts, Associate of Science and Business Management
PROFESSION / TITLE: Co-owner
COMPANY: Glo Sun Spa Victoria
HOW DID YOU GET INVOLVED IN THIS INDUSTRY?
My mother and I attended a trade show in 2015 and I fell in love with the tanning and spa industry. I’ve always wanted to start a business that I was passionate about and be able to change people’s lives. Victoria lacked my vision, so the journey began.
WHAT DOES YOU NEED TO SUCCESS?
Making my mother proud and my passion for this industry drives me to success. I’m always thinking about how we can make the customer experience even better. I love to see her completely relaxed after a service and like a new person leaving the house. Happy customer, happy life.
WHAT ARE THE BIGGEST CHALLENGES YOU WERE PRESENTED IN YOUR CAREER? HOW DID YOU PERFORM THESE CHALLENGES?
One of the biggest challenges since opening in 2016 has been getting the word out that we are here. We’ve tried so many different advertising opportunities over the years and they haven’t helped.
Marketing and advertising are still our struggle. Since word of mouth is our greatest support, we give our clients a $ 5 recommendation if they bring a friend.
What do you find appealing about the current and future situation in your profession?
I’ve learned so much about this industry and I’m still learning it. We have grown a lot since we opened as new devices and services keep coming onto the market. I look forward to our future growth as a company. I am happy that I can do all of this with my mother.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO YOUNG WOMEN GROWING UP IN YOUR PROFESSION?
My advice applies to every profession. Always stand tall and be proud of what you have built for yourself and your community. You may not please everyone, but just know that there are so many others out there who appreciate everything you do for them.
HOW DO YOU SERVE AND GIVE BACK TO YOUR COMMUNITY?
We hold an open house event twice a year where we invite everyone in the community to enjoy our services for free. Everyone deserves to relieve stress and feel good. We are also involved in the Bridal Showcases every year. One of them supports the Lions Club. This year we donated a free spray tan to all participants in the Miss Victoria Pageant. We donate raffle baskets for cancer services and fundraising campaigns.
WHICH CHARITY OR NONPROFITS DO YOU SUPPORT AND WHY?
Project Tickled Pink because my grandmother died of breast cancer. Dorothy O’Connor Pet Adoption Center because I have a passion for animals. Love Vincent and Live Like Roo Foundation mean a lot to me because I lost my fur baby to cancer. They send care packages to dogs with cancer. When every dog’s eyes shine like my Lily’s when she got hers, my heart is so happy to be a part of them. Christ’s Kitchen Care packages. Devereux’s My Holiday Wishes Fund offers children and the elderly gifts during the Christmas season that they would not otherwise receive.
