Diamondbacks’ Madison Bumgarner: Tosses quality start

Bumgarner completed 6.2 innings against San Diego on Friday, allowing two runs with nine hits and no walks while dropping six. He did not take the decision into account.

The veteran hurler kept the Padres off the scoreboard for six frames but lost the lead – and a chance of victory – when Wil Myers marked him for a double home run in seventh field. Despite the disappointing ending, the outing continued a recent turnaround for Bumgarner, who posted a 2.09 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 26: 4 K: BB in his last six starts. The heavy stretch has brought the southpaw ERA down to 4.30 after it hit 5.73 in early June. Bumgarner’s next start is set to take place at home against Philadelphia next week.
