Local music: Columnist Paddy Fineran reports on upcoming live shows | Music

Lunde Live on the Roof! starts on Saturday (March 13th) at 12:30 p.m. on the roof of Kenosha Creative Space, 624 57th St.

Many local jazz musicians began under the guidance of Curt Hanrahan. The saxophonist has been a fixture on the scene for decades and works with the Milwaukee Jazz Orchestra. This group reaches the students with a live stream performance on Saturday.

Made possible by the “Let the Music Play” summer festival grant, the session offers music students and the general public an inside look at the jazz orchestra’s preparation for the performance of new and original material.

The core of the MJO is Hanrahan, his brother Warren and his son Tim. Just a short list of the greats Hanrahan has worked with includes Tony Bennett, Cab Calloway, the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, Harry Connick Jr., the Arturo Sandoval Big Band, Manhattan Transfer, the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, Doc Severinsen, Frank Sinatra Jr and Ray Charles. Yes, that.

The March 13 live stream, New Music for New Beginnings, is a live stream rehearsal and recording from 2pm to 5pm, followed by a 6pm to 7pm concert at the Suburban Bourbon in Muskego. The event will produce new recordings available for purchase and download. The link is https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=kJqNRNnCD1U&feature=youtu.be.
