Steve Jakubowski Obituary (1939 – 2021) – Kenosha, WI

Steve Jakubowski

May 1, 1939 – November 22, 2021

KENOSHA – Steve Jakubowski, 82, left for his tee time on Monday, November 22, 2021.

He was born on May 1, 1939 in Athens, WI, to Steve and Mary (Obermeyer) Jakubowski. When he was 11 he moved to Kenosha. Steve attended McKinley Jr. High and Bradford High School.

Steve worked for ARA Services for 30 years before retiring due to an industrial accident. He also once owned the Stay-Up Antenna Service. In his 20s while working at ARA, he moved to California to work in the Warner Bros. Studios Commissariat. He loved talking about meeting Natalie Wood, George Burns, Frank Sinatra, and many others.

He was married to his first wife, Nance, and had three sons. Nance died of cancer at 40.

On July 4, 1987, he was married to Paula Bastian.

Before his work injury, Steve had a passion for golf. For 25 years he, Marty Stella, Angelo Germinaro and Dick Bern have played 27, 36 and even 54 holes every Sunday in the Spring Valley Country Club for a few weeks.

Steve was a real golfer who after a few Manhattans at Casa Capri became a great golfer after golf.

He’s solved thousands of crossword puzzles. He owned several street rods and enjoyed showing them off at auto shows. A highlight of his life was a three-week trip to Europe with Paula and his father-in-law Hugh and his wife Alice. They visited 10 countries. His childhood dream of riding a gondola in Venice came true.

Despite all of his health problems, he retained his sense of humor into the last year of his life. His granddaughters named him, which sounded like “Bompa”. Your mom told me that she thought you could say bunker like Archie’s bunker. Very possible.

Steve is survived by his wife Paula; his son David Jakubowski, Kenosha; his granddaughters: Katelyn, Kamryn and Molly Jakubowski; his brother Bob (Vania), Chippewa Falls; his brother-in-law David (Sandy) Bastianelli; Sister-in-law Sheryl (Graeme) Wearne, Australia; Sister-in-law Jean Jakubowski; Stepmother Alice Bastian; and their children: Terry (Walt) Ullmayer and Dan Petersen all of Venice, FL; as well as many nieces and nephews.

His parents, sons Steve in 2003 and Tony in 2019 preceded him in death; his granddaughter Kimberly; his brothers Edward, LeRoy, Ray (Betty), and George (Lynn Novy); and his sister Irene (Ernie) Stubbe; his father-in-law, Hugh Bastian; and mother-in-law Pearl (Merl) Milestone; and his best friend Jerry Natzke; and his fur friend Wrigley.

No funeral services will be held at Steve’s request. A Celebration of Life will take place on Tuesday, November 30th, 2021 between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at Casa Capri, 2129 Birch Rd, Kenosha.

Instead of flowers, memories are cherished.

Thank you to the Hospice Alliance for your respectful care for Steve in his final days.
