University of Wisconsin – Green Bay: Photos: UW-Green Bay’s newly installed Chancellor Michael Alexander joins 500 others for UW-Green …

More than 500 members of the UW-Green Bay community attended the UW-Green Bay Day of Service on Friday October 1st, 2021. All faculty, staff and students were encouraged to stop their activities for the day in order to connect with them and make a difference in their communities.

Volunteering ranged from preparing food in the soup kitchen to doing fall cleaning on campus and in the community to putting together medical kits to prevent overdose in the community. The Day of Service covered all four UW-Green Bay campuses in Green Bay, Marinette, Manitowoc and Sheboygan. An estimated 2,000 hours of community service were donated through the effort. The day was inspired to honor the inauguration of UW Green Bay Chancellor Mike Alexander the day before.

The community response has been inspired and appreciated, including this thank you letter from Executive Director of Downtown Green Bay, Inc. Jeff Mirkes: “Our Downtown & Olde Main Street team has been so impressed with the number of students and staff at UW-Green Bay, that made a BIG difference in cleaning up our neighborhoods. It was great to see how this initiative was a team building experience for them and how they are routinely thanked by people downtown today. Thank you very much! “

Kudos to the staff at the Student Engagement Center for organizing this event.
